Night-Life Economy Commissioner
Mr John (JC) Collins AM, appointed on 30 September 2024 for a 3-year term, is dedicated to strengthening and growing Queensland’s vibrant night economy that contributes millions of dollars annually to the State’s economy.
The role of Queensland's Night-Life Economy Commissioner is to work with nightlife economy businesses and support, promote and advocate for key aspects of the nightlife economy, as detailed in the Night-Life Economy Commissioner Act 2024.
By fostering partnerships and championing the interests of businesses, the Commissioner plays a vital role in driving growth and sustainability of the sector and the businesses that underpin it. The Commissioner works to promote and enhance opportunities, ensuring the sector remains dynamic and competitive.
To support this work, a Nightlife Economy Advisory Panel has been appointed, consisting of industry representatives.
The Commissioner delivered Queensland’s first Nightlife Economy Report (previously referred to as a strategy) to the Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth. The Report, currently under government consideration, provides a roadmap of recommended short-, medium- and long-term actions to support a more vibrant, safe and economically thriving nightlife sector.
