Project: Armstrong Place East
Location: Meadowbrook
Team: Logan City Council with The Landscape Construction Company and SMEC
Logan City Council has delivered an engaging people focused place from leftover infrastructure space by championing the reinvention of a conventionally bland overpass edge into a suite of active and passive community uses. In a dense urban environment where competition for land use is high and a major hospital, rail station and university campus are within easy walking distance, the project provides vibrant public realm infrastructure offering respite from the bustling urban and clinical settings.
Pivotal to the success of the project is the diversity of the public realm offering with public art, urban sporting courts, and a yarning circle all composed and cossetted within a carefully structured landscape. Without question this project exemplifies a considered and inventive response to providing urban amenity by co-opting remnant infrastructure space to deliver much needed useable, attractive and active public realm for the local community.

Project: Neville Bonner Bridge
Location: Brisbane
Team: Grimshaw with WSP, Arup, Urbis and Goldwave
The Neville Bonner Bridge adds to our River City Story - It is Brisbane's first pedestrian-only bridge. Elevating and prioritising the pedestrian sends a clear message that all pedestrians matter in the city of Brisbane Queensland. The project was technically challenging spanning a river, a freeway and connecting into a building at Queens Wharf at one end and landing in a highly trafficked precinct at Southbank.
The panel acknowledged the tenacity of the client and the design team for delivering a bridge that would have been easier to not deliver. Persistence and good design has resulted in the Neville Bonner Bridge becoming a landmark bridge that tourists and the people of Brisbane Queensland are already using and celebrating.
