Gold Coast Youth Foyer
The proposed Gold Coast Youth Foyer will offer 40 single occupancy, self-contained units where young people can rent a home in a safe and stable environment, while being supported to achieve their education and employment goals.
The foyer will provide accommodation for vulnerable young people aged 16 to 25 years.
These young tenants will be supported to gain essential, practical life skills to help them transition into mainstream accommodation and live independently.
Young people will need to be in employment, education or training to be eligible to live at the youth foyer. They will also pay 25% of their income in rent.
Experienced youth support staff will provide 24/7 on-site assistance for the young tenants and ensure support is available when needed.
On-site management and support
The Gold Coast Youth Foyer will be managed by Gold Coast Youth Service in partnership with Horizon Housing Company.

Gold Coast Youth Service is a not-for-profit organisation with expertise in managing supported housing. It has a long history of achieving positive outcomes for young people on the Gold Coast.
Horizon Housing Company will provide property and tenancy management of the foyer.
Engaging with the community is an important part of the development approval process. A four-week non-statutory community consultation began on 27 August 2019 and concluded on 24 September 2019. During this process letters were sent to local residents and property owners inviting them to attend a community information session held at Southport TAFE on 27 August 2019. On 13 September 2019, a second letter and fact sheet with details of the proposed initiative was sent to residents and property owners by post. Feedback received during this process has been recorded and considered by the department.
Planning Regulation 2017 – Notice to Adjoining Land Owners
In accordance with the Planning Regulation 2017 (the Act), adjoining neighbours have been advised that the State of Queensland (Department of Housing and Public Works) will make a proposal regarding Lots 4, 5 & 6 on RP64210 (51-53 North Street and 130 High Street, Southport).
Adjoining property owners have been formally notified about the proposal and had until 21 November 2019 to submit a response.
