For Lachie, the accredited residential service Hanworth House at East Brisbane offers much more than just a room.
“I’m a fly-in, fly-out worker in the mines near Rockhampton, so it’s great to stay at Hanworth House and have Brisbane as my base,” Lachie said.
Staying at Hanworth House provides Lachie with some certainty in his busy life. Lachie says that Hanworth House offers good quality, affordable accommodation.
“Previously, I was having to find an apartment to stay in on my week off and it was getting expensive to find somewhere for 6 or 7 nights. It could be Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sydney. Now I know where I am staying,” said Lachie.
Hanworth House provides Lachie with a secure and spacious place to live.
“Hanworth House has great facilities and I have never had any dramas; the place is well maintained, and things get attended to quickly if you report them.”
“It’s such a large property that it feels like I’ve got a lot more space to myself compared to a 2 or 3-bedroom apartment or a share house,” he said.
Hanworth House fosters a community atmosphere and Lachie enjoys getting to know new people.
“An added benefit to staying at Hanworth House is that I meet a lot of people,” he said.
“Everyone gets on really well here, it’s pretty much like our little family.”
“I’ve learnt so much from interacting with people from different cultures, different backgrounds and different professions, it’s been a really positive experience.”
When not catching up with the other residents, Lachie likes to practice his violin.
“I bought a violin 6 months ago, but I’ve played the viola for more than 15 years. I usually like to practice in the bathroom because it provides better acoustics,” he said.
Hanworth House is an accredited level one residential service. The well-maintained property has 23 bedrooms with a mixture of single and double furnished rooms. There are well appointed shared kitchens and a choice of private or shared bathroom depending on the room you rent.
Accredited residential services, like Hanworth House, provide important accommodation options for people with a range of different housing needs, including some of Queensland’s most vulnerable. Providing accommodation for four or more people, residents may share facilities such as a bathroom or kitchen. Some services also provide residents with food or a personal care service as part of their accommodation agreement.
