Former aged care property in Newtown, Toowoomba to help house Queenslanders

A former aged care property in Newtown, Toowoomba will be used to house Queenslanders in housing need.

The property is made up of over 50 self-contained units and will provide medium to long-term accommodation to adults on the social housing register, experiencing or at risk of homelessness and those affected by the recent housing crisis

The vacant property was built in 2005 and was for sale on the open market.

Residents will benefit from quality accommodation, communal facilities, and nearby public transport.

Local support services will help them transition into the property, support them while they are there and work with residents as they move into longer term housing.

The Toowoomba and South West Housing Service Centre will identify and work with potential residents to refer them to the property. Residents will be eligible for social housing.

The project is the second State Government purchase of former aged care facilities helping people in housing need secure appropriate housing.
