Forecasting the future: community services in Queensland 2025 (PDF, 5 MB) (RTF, 646 KB) was co-commissioned by the former Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services and the Community Services Industry Alliance to inform the reform agenda.
Prepared by Deloitte Access Economics, the report provides an overview of the current and future state of the industry, based on social and economic data, and identifies future industry implications and success imperatives.
Report findings include the following points:
- Strong jobs growth is predicted for the industry, with forecasts showing an average growth rate of 3.8% per year for the period 2015–25
- The ageing population is growing disproportionately to the overall population, which will increase service demand and place pressure on funding for services
- It will be necessary for the industry to seek diversified revenue and funding sources, and to find new ways of delivering services to meet client needs
- The industry will need to attract and retain a strong workforce to meet service demand and the industry’s future skill needs (e.g. in data management and analysis and adoption of digital solutions).
Success imperatives outlined in the report focus on embracing and optimising an outcomes focus; research and innovation; digital disruption; funding and financing; productivity; collaboration and cooperation; and policy and regulation.
